Evacuation
Know your route before you need it
Old Station has limited egress. The difference between an orderly evacuation and a dangerous one is whether people already know where they are going.
Alert levels
Be Ready
A fire is burning in the area. Review your plan, park facing out, load your go-bag, and stay tuned to official alerts.
Be Set
Significant danger. Anyone with animals, medical needs, or mobility limits should leave now. Everyone else should be packed and in the vehicle.
Go
Evacuation order issued. Leave immediately by the designated route. Do not stop to gather more belongings.
Get the alerts
CodeRED
Shasta County Sheriff issues evacuation orders through CodeRED. Register every phone number in the household, including landlines.
Radio and scanner
Keep a battery or hand-crank radio. Cell and internet service here fails early in an incident.
Phone tree
The committee maintains a neighbor-to-neighbor call list for residents without reliable service. Ask to be added at any monthly meeting.
Routes, shelters, and staging
Primary route
Highway 89 south to Highway 44, then west toward Redding. Used unless the fire is south or west of the community.
Secondary route
Highway 44 east toward Susanville. Longer, but the correct choice when the southwest corridor is compromised or congested.
Shelters
Red Cross shelter locations are announced with the evacuation order and posted on this page and the community map.
Livestock staging
Large animals stage at the county fairgrounds. Halter and tag animals early; do not wait for the order if you need multiple trips.
