History and setting
Old Station sits at the junction of Highways 44 and 89 in the shadow of Lassen Peak, surrounded by mixed conifer forest and volcanic terrain.
The community was shaped by lava flows, ranching, and a century of forest road building — leaving heavy fuels along narrow access corridors.
After the 2021 Dixie Fire burned to the community's doorstep, residents formed a Firewise committee and completed the first community-wide risk assessment.
